My Journey

Creativity, colour and care has always been central to what I do. My passion for design started before I can remember, by being around my parents and grandparents, who as florists and graphic designers were creating living art every day. I developed this love of creativity through art and textiles at school and then onto my degree, specialising in fashion. My dissertation was "Dying for Life" and through this I discovered how much oil is used in the production of fake fur and my work was showcased at London Fashion Week. This has led me to design and manufacture ready to wear collections using real sheepskin and leather.

After leaving University, I set up Heidi Instance Couture and turned my focus to designing and making bespoke bridal and special occasion wear and my clients included some famous celebrities in the area. This partnered perfectly with the floristry of my parents and grandparents. I paused when I got married and became a mum of two wonderful boys.

I didn't stop creating and in 2015, my next venture began with Hides Couture, where my attention turned back to sheepskin. I used shearling to create a collection of wraps, hats, gilets, jackets and coats alongside some bespoke pieces. I was extremely proud to have designed and made the last long sheepskin coat worn by the iconic football commentator, John Motson.

Over the last couple of years I have renovated the workshop with my dedicated husband and designed and sourced a range of Outerwear, Knitwear, Home Scents, Accessories and also ventured into Re-styling of vintage fashion garments, adding embellishments to create unique pieces.

My Workshop

All of this is now available at my workshop - Heidi Instance in Markyate, St Albans. The initial design work and many finishing touches take place in the workshop before items are completed for sale. We have leather, suede, silk and wool garments in our limited capsule collection. I work with some of the finest tanneries in Europe and I'm developing partnerships with many other skilled British artisans, such as a knitwear company and wax specialist, providing candles and diffusers for your home. We have a limited range of carefully selected jewellery, homeware and gifts.

I keep developing new ideas and will be bringing these to my customers through the workshop and website. My most recent artistic expression is "Walking with Flowers" floristry to make you smile. Created in memory of my parents and grandparents who continue to be my creative inspiration.

I look forward to welcoming you very soon or if you cannot visit the workshop do browse the website or email me with any specific enquiries.
